CitySmarts

At CitySmarts, we’re all about hands-on, minds-on learning!
We believe that learning is most effective when it’s hands-on. When children actively participate and experience something first-hand, their learning comes alive! That’s why the Acadiana Arts Council and Lafayette Natural History Museum & Planetarium have teamed up to offer your child a fun-filled and educational summer camp experience. Each five-day session is packed full of hands-on activities and opportunities that inspire campers to create and explore. Each day will introduce several new activities, many of which are designed to reflect the exciting exhibitions on display at each campsite. With only 20 campers per session, you can be sure that your child is nurtured in his or her learning experiences!

  • For the rest of the day, at the LNHM&P, campers are challenged in the world of science.
  • Campers are picked up at 4:00 pm from the LNHM&P.

2008 THEME - back to top
This year’s theme is Art and Science in the Natural World. Campers will play the role of scientists and artists as they are introduced to the awesome earth, the spectacular sky and the multitude of plants and animals that inhabit those spaces. They will become familiar with the processes of investigation, observation and problem-solving, as well as the creative process integral to both science and the arts. The hands-on, minds-on activities are designed to stimulate the campers’ respect for the natural world and its inhabitants by observing and understanding its processes and cycles.
