AcA Project Facts

DESCRIPTION

The Acadiana Center for the Arts is a unique cultural facility serving residents of and visitors to rural and metropolitan areas of the 8-parish Acadiana region of Southwest Louisiana.  The facility is a critical component of a burgeoning downtown cultural center and tourism entertainment destination, integrated with a Parks and Plazas Network, Lafayette Natural History Museum and Planetarium, Children's Museum of Acadiana, Lafayette Public Library, a growing number of private galleries and downtown events such as Festival International de Louisiane, Downtown Alive, Second Saturday Artwalk and Mardi Gras.

CONSTRUCTION PLAN

The Acadiana Center for the Arts has been developed in two distinct but interconnected phases.  Phase I is an adaptive reuse of 25,000 square feet in an existing landmark building. Major components of Phase I include museum quality exhibition galleries, studios and administrative offices.

PHASE II

The centerpiece of Phase II is a courtyard theater designed by Theatre Projects Consultants. With 45 years of theatre-design experience, TPC has created 800 projects in 50 countries, including the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Royal National Theatre of Great Britain, and Ozawa Concert Hall at Tanglewood. The theater space will be technologically geared with broadcast and teleconferencing capabilities, yet simple enough in structure to facilitate a wide variety of performing arts activities. Phase II construction is set to begin in Fall 2005, with completion in early 2007.
